Thanks for all the great info!
I was wondering if this was the correct list for this type of query? Let me
know if it's off topic.
More info from our own situation. We wanted to use Syndetics to link to for
movie thumbnails and reviews. They did a match count for us. The highest
hit rate was on the UPC code with their database. 4818 out of 8900 records.
Much less for ISBN and almost none for OCLC#. Now that could just be our
records. Most of them come from Bibliophile.
BTW, I believe the UPC code is in marc tag 024 1_ (a)
We're one of the pilot libraries for the move to Evergreen ILS in British
Columbia. That will eventually be shared cataloguing over _many_ libraries.
Trying to puzzle this one out.
I think a direct link to IMDB (using their unique, and so they say,
permanent ID number) would be very useful for our patrons. Most of OUR
intellectual freedom challenges are now about movies and children, and
pointing people/parents to as many sources of information helps them make
informed decisions about whether to borrow/view/let their kids see the movie
[well that was a bit off topic for sure...]
Anyway. So:
1. marc tag 856
2. Take the title and send it to IMDB and let the patron navigate from there
3. Use a x ref numbering system: from UPC to IMDB id number? or?
4. Download the actual free data and ? what? parse and put parts of the info
in notes in the record? Just point to the entire info for that movie?
Can you think of anything else?
Kevin
