For my part (as a cataloger), I would like to be a more active
participant in conversations about how cataloging needs to change, but
really lack the necessary computer knowledge to do so (hardware,
software, systems, programming simple and advanced, you name it)

I am learning though, but it is a very slow uphill climb. (I have never
had a natural love for technology. I don't even know what all the
buttons in my car do - I don't "play" just to "play". I like it when I
have a goal and someone can show me, preferably in real time, how that
goal can be accomplished, matching my goals with their know-how) I am
grateful when persons try to take the time to communicate to catalogers
who may not be so technologically adept in simple ways that especially
make sense to them.

Good stuff Jonathan. Thanks.

Not necessarily -- catalogers themselves are divided, and it's not
necessarily as polar, for lack of a better term, as it may seem.

Part of the issue is, from my point of view, that catalogers are not
being involved in said changes -- administrators and systems folk are
often treating catalogers as an afterthought.

Jerri,

So I take it the catalogers are on the 'no change is necessary' side.

Thanks for the clarification.
