I'm not sure, but I think OCLC is doing something like that in its
"control headings" feature. I think it might work something like the
Canadian UTLAS system of the 1980s, where an Authority Record Number
exists in the actual data, and the corresponding data is substituted
onscreen in its place. I think the "classic" Dynix system did the same
thing.
