I just came across this example of asynchronous searching via a DSpace
mail-list:
https://dspacetest.leidenuniv.nl/dspace/

The AJAX client displays search results over titles, authors, and
keywords. It doesn't show a browse list of keywords, but I think
DSpace's internal data model actually would support that.
