That was our experience as well. Browse was seldom used, and it was
library staff that insisted on the feature. I still use it, but mainly
when I'm looking for particular headings to use as examples in an
analysis that I'm doing.
What occurs to me is that browse and the AACR-type headings are a set --
browse isn't useful in metadata that doesn't create library-like
headings. Browse peculiar to the type of data that we create. Since it
isn't used by our catalog users, I think that tells us something about
our data. Maybe we should be talking about the data rather than the
access method.
