You can also get fairly jiggy with Whitman over in NINES, a Solr
powered social networking scholarly thingy:
<http://www.nines.org/browse/saved/erikhatcher/whitman>
I love this thread and this group in general! While I haven't been
able to personally tinker with all of the great wishlist of OPAC
features within Blacklight, I am more than confident that Solr can
easily be the power making all of these things mentioned with
browsability. Easy on poor Andrew - he's done what I've only been
day-dreaming of doing, and he presents it very well with vufind.org.
(I have to admit that my dream involves a Ruby-fried layer, not PHP,
though, but that's just me ;).
You can sorta "browse" all keywords including agents (author, artist,
publisher, translator, and editor breakdowns too) using either the
phrase or agent search boxes by typing a few characters and pausing
briefly. For example, from the above link type "whit" into the name:
box with a pause to see the pop-up. The counts show the number of
objects _given the current constraints_ that are associated with the
agent and roles specified. To get a glimpse of the role breakdown,
which the Whitman data doesn't seem to leverage much of, clear your
constraints and type "ross" in the name: box.
