Regarding stemming: I also think it is generally more trouble than
its worth, but many don't.  Pleasantly, as Andrew mentions, it is
entirely flexible on how text becomes searchable keywords and
facets.  The same data can be indexed as stemmed and unstemmed, for
example, allowing the client (users ultimately) decide whether to use
it or not.
