Technical Services Librarian
Will initiate a two-to-three year project to convert manual serials receipt, acquisitions, and circulation to the integrated library system, Innovative Interfaces; requires setting policies, creating documentation, and training staff. On a continuing basis, handles library acquisitions, including vendor relations and desk copy control, and serials control issues. May perform copy and original cataloging. Works closely with electronic publications specialist and library assistants on collection development and maintenance. Participates in expenditure control and budget prediction activities. Recommends technical and administrative policies, as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Manage acquisitions functions, including bibliographic searching, placing orders, handling vendors, verifying and posting invoices, maintaining expenditure records, and resolving problems; will convert acquisitions to the online system.
2. Manage serials functions, including creation and maintenance of serials receipt records in the integrated library system, resolving problems, and updating the local union list.
3. Manage conversion of circulation functions to integrated library system, including bar coding and training.
4. Interface with the library system vendor on technical and performance issues; train staff on use of the system and internal best practices; create documentation as needed.
5. Perform post-processing of cataloged items, including retrieval of superseded materials and record updates; as workload and experience permit, may catalog new titles.
6. Participate in development of electronic resources and new technologies, including portal resources, access to electronic publications, and other knowledge management initiatives.
Requirements:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
* M.L.S. from ALA-accredited library school.
* Knowledge of legal/business information publications and vendors.
* Experience with library automation systems, preferably Innovative Interfaces, and ability to assist others with their use.
* Three or more years of experience with acquisitions, serials control and circulation processes and issues.
* Cataloging experience (OCLC, AACR2.5, LC classification, LCSH) desirable.
* Supervisory experience desirable.
* Basic skills in computer use necessary, including word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.

8. Participate in orientation of legal and non-legal staff in use and resources of the Library; may contribute to the Library's formal and informal publications and outreach activities.
