I'm going to take that back. I looked around and most systems convert to
Unicode, but don't convert to MARC XML. However, that's not hugely
significant. Almost no one uses MARC as an internal format, although
I've seen systems that keep the MARC tagging just not the iso 2709
structure. In any case, moving records from one format to another is no
big deal, and as long as you can map to whatever the internal format is
you are in good shape. And many systems already have ways to link
non-MARC data to the records in their database, such as the cover art.
