Well, yeah. Stealing from the best, or at least the most successful,
have the folks doing usability testing at Google published or presented
about their work?
More importantly, are there examples of UI work where the designers
have, ahem, missed the point in too-obvious way? What are some good BAD
examples of UI recently? I nominate whoever designed the "dancing
idiot" advert on CNN about cut-rate mortgages. Yes I noticed the add -
I noticed I hate it.

Don't users tell us what they want by their actions? If you create an
index and no one uses it, or if you create a catalog and no one uses it,
that's a strong message that they don't want that. But if you study
their workflow, where they DO go and what they do there, then you are
seeing what they want.
