Indeed; the whole world of UX (User Experience) - which encompasses
mythical things such as information architecture, usability ans
user-centred design, amongst many - revolves around the notion of
creating prototypes rapidly, test them, and move on to the next
iteration. They can be prototypes on paper, computer wireframe, HTML
pages, etc, and there are many tools for creating them, both on and
off the computer. Even smaller exercises like card-sorting and content
analysis revolves around this idea of creating smaller, faster, thrown
together smaller rougher versions of what we finaly end up with. It's
known as "rapid prototyping", and lately, "mockups" with more live
data and feel.
