Tim,

Why do you feel they were 'intentionally hamstrung'?  Because they
were converted to MODS?

I think MIT is providing a dataset to allow people to use for their
own whims.  If the Simile project benefitted from the data being MODS
(and I could definitely see why they would feel that way), why is
wrong to then share that data?  Just because it's not how you intended
to use it?

Also, I'm skeptical as to whether the roundtripping of MODS back to
MARC is /so/ lossy as to render the records unusable.
