Hi Selden
I think that's a fair assumption. In the comments, I think there were only a couple who identified themselves as not working in a library (one was a member of academic staff, and the other works for a ILS vendor).
I did specifically want to target librarians and library staff, and the link was posted:
1) on my blog (and a few other librar* bloggers kindly added links on their blogs)
2) http://library20.ning.com
3) the Horizon-L and Ipac closed mailing lists (for Dynix and Horizon customers)
4) the two major UK library mailing lists (LIS-PUB-LIBS and LIS-LINK)
I think the link was also posted to one of the Unicorn ILS mailing lists and also one of the Ex Libris ILS mailing lists.
As I was only really looking to pull a few facts and figures together for a presentation I gave yesterday at the UK Library & Information Show, it was only meant to be a quick and informal survey, so I didn't feel the need to start probing too deeply into job roles, etc. In fact, the initial version of the survey didn't even ask the respondents to say what kind of library or which ILS system they use.
Given the above, these certainly aren't scientifically rigerous findings and results, but I do think they act as general indicators. I'd certainly recommend taking a small pinch of salt with the results, but it's still a worthwhile exercise to try and pinpoint the overall trends.
A number of respondents said that the survey would be better posed to our users (which I thoroughly agree with!), but the purpose was very much to get a feel for what library staff felt (as they were the audience for the presentation).
regards
Dave

Dave,
Do you have demographics on the respondents? Would I be correct
to assume that the vast majority of respondents are librarians
or people who work in libraries, as opposed to people who use
libraries?
