Tim, I'd have to disagree. For some things tags only work with large
numbers. However, the research scientist who tags items, so he and his
team can find them again doesn't need any others to tag those items.
Same with the teacher who tags a reading list for a course. There are
personal uses for tags and social uses. The personal ones do not require
the large numbers, social uses do.
Interesting article on possibly using taggin for academic evaluation on
Academic Productivity. A use that would not have occurred to me. Who
knows how the data will be useful?
