I don't know whether to jump in on this thread or the "changing the
catalog without changing catalog" thread. They've both traced some of
the same themes.
I was thinking about a comment in that other thread that you can
search authors without necessarily doing a structured author search.
And then there is Karen's "lolita" search in PINES and the process of
unravelling results for the edition you need.
So, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the new Worldcat.org interface.
A simple search box where you "enter title, subject or person".
http://www.worldcat.org/search?q=lolita
Then you can refine your search using the facets in the left column
http://www.worldcat.org/search?q=lolita&qt=faceted&fq=ap%3AVladimir+ap%3AVladimirovich+ap%3ANabokov
>From there, you can drill down using the Editions tab
http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/289704?tab=editions
Each time I use it, I am impressed with the simplicity of the
interface combined with intuitive options that lets you find a
specific work and then track down a library that owns a copy centered
on a postal code. We have a multi-search box on our library's homepage
where one of the options is this new Worldcat interface. It has
already become part of my arsenal at the reference desk.
