The Open University Library in the UK (Voyager and Encompass) is currently
thinking about which direction to take the library catalogue.
There's a chance of influencing this if anyone fancies relocating:

>Strategic Systems IT Development Manager, The Open University Library
>(http://www3.open.ac.uk/employment/job-details.asp?id=2388)
>Do you have the strategic vision to lead the development of leading edge
>systems and services to meet the needs of our users in a rapidly changing
>learning/technological environment?
>
>You will lead the Library's strategic IT systems development by providing
>specialist technical advice to Senior Management. You will ensure that there
>is a strategic fit with University-wide systems developments by liaising with
>key stakeholders in the organisation as well as horizon scanning new
>technologies and relevant research. You will support the development of our
>user-centred electronic library and its integration into the University's
>virtual learning environment.

One exercise I'm looking at (1dpw horizon scanning for the library) going
through is a 'what if' exercise based around:
what if the catalogue had a similar interface to:
 -amazon
- google
- library thing
- ebay.
- ms live (academic) search
- bbc search

just by chance, has anyone done this sort of thing before - e.g. a critique of
the above sites as if they were library sys intrefaces?
