The goal of the journal is to share lessons learned and cases of failures in information technology management projects in business, universities, government, and the military. In doing so, the knowledge base of the professional field of information technology management can further grow through learning from others. The primary theme of this workshop is to investigate methods of providing hypertext functionality to users of information systems. This includes providing hypertext functionality to systems that lack it, as well as providing enhanced hypertext functionality to systems which have only limited hypertext capabilities. This workshop takes a cross-disciplinary approach to implementing hypermedia as value-added support functionality. We consider the entire process of embedding hypertext functions into non-hypertext oriented information systems. These include a large base of scientific and business applications, which dynamically generate their content, and which people use primarily for their underlying analytic functionality. Hypertext features both supplement and give users access to the application's primary activities. The workshop will be held in conjunction with the ACM Hypertext '96 Conference. The innovation and creativity that these changes demand have lead to the need for a change oriented managerial approach. The objective of the book, Information Systems and Technology Innovation and Diffusion, is two-fold; --Report state-of-the-art IS/IT innovation and diffusion research --Present innovation and diffusion theory based guidelines to enable managers to take firmer control over the issues and processes that will increase the business value of IS/IT investments. Key issues, such as emerging technologies, process improvement, IS/IT teams and management, organizational impacts, and innovation and creativity theory will be discussed in this new book. Specific issues may include (but are not necessarily limited to): --The diffusion of IS applications and information technology from the developers to business organizations. --Technology push; the process of how new and emerging information technologies give birth to new ideas about business opportunities, organizational renewal, and changes in individual jobs. --Technology pull; the process of idea and information systems development within organizations and how these attach information systems concepts and/or information technology to them, from birth, through development, to implementation. --The challenge of maintenance; the process of continuous enhancement (incremental innovations) of the existing organizational IS/IT portfolio. Of special interest here may be the interaction between the organizational information technology platform and specific applications. --Innovation and diffusion theory as the basis for identification of IS/IT value and effects, that is, does IS/IT innovation give a payback, monetary or other? --The management of IS/IT innovation, including frameworks for IS/IT quality planning and control. Is the management of IS/IT innovation similar to the management of other types of innovation or does it have its own particular dimensions? Within each of these broader themes theoretical think pieces, the development of research propositions, the development and use of innovative methods and frameworks, and reports on empirical research are welcome. Research progresses by following a cyclical process of theory development and theory testing. The definition of an information system success construct underlies the development of a cumulative MIS research tradition by allowing for cross study comparisons, replications, and by providing an important link in the scientific research cycle. This special issue will focus on: --theoretical insights and conceptual developments related to system success --comparisons of system success instruments --validation of system success measures --new and improved measures of system success All papers should be 20-30 pages, double-spaced, following the APA style. An abstract of 100-150 words should be included in the paper. References should be cited with the paper by (author, year) format, and then listed alphabetically in the reference section at the end of the paper. (For more detailed information, see the submission guidelines in each issue of the Information Resources Management Journal.) Figures and tables should be camera-ready copy. Five copies of the paper should be submitted to G. Lawrence Sanders by February 1, 1996. Papers will be refereed and authors will be notified by March 30, 1996. Final revised, accepted papers will be due by May 1, 1996. Quality papers will be considered for an upcoming book on information system success measurement. Guest Editors: G.
