The more prominent of these factors include the advance of the information technology revolution, the emerging national information infrastructure for commerce, and the ever-shorter product cycles that make information technology capabilities an important core competence for global enterprises. The vision of an "information superhighway" has facilitated the formation of an information-oriented economy: commerce travels on electronic networks. These developments have major implications for the role of information technology in businesses. Every type of company today, manufacturing or service alike, rely upon information technology to build the business infrastructure, to increase productivity, and to explore new sources for strategic advantages. Conference Format The conference will feature paper sessions and panel discussions on the National Information Infrastructure, the Impact of Information Technology on Product Development Strategies, the Management of Technology in Global Enterprises, and Emerging Information Technologies for Rapid Product Design and Development. The Keynote Address "Web Technology and National Information Infrastructure" will be delivered by Larry Smarr, Director, NCSA. Registration Pre-registration is required. March 16-20, 1996 Washington DC, USA In the '70s Ted Nelson coined the term "docuverse" to describe a global network of interlinked and personalizable information. Now, two decades later, the docuverse is taking form. Graphics and computing technology now brings inexpensive hypermedia technology to everyone, and the World Wide Web is linking all those everyones together. Hypertext '96 is the seventh in the premier international series of ACM conferences on hypertext and hypermedia theory, systems, and applications. Hypertext '96 will offer a forum for presentation and discussion of the latest results in Hypermedia research and development, including WWW technology. We invite your participation. The Technical Program Hypertext '96 will provide a common setting for researchers and practicing professionals to share experiences and to compare notes about hypermedia authoring, publishing, system construction, human- computer interaction, digital libraries, and electronic literature. Hypertext '96 will provide a forum for presentation and discussion of exciting and original developments in hypertext and hypermedia through several different technical formats: --papers --panels and perspectives --demonstrations --posters --courses --technical workshops --doctoral consortium Critical Dates 1 Sept 95: Papers due 1 Sept 95: Proposals for Panels, Briefings, Workshops, Courses due 1 Sept 95: Doctoral Consortium applications due 15 Oct 95: Notification of acceptance for Papers, Panels, Briefings, Doctoral Consortium, Workshops, and Courses 1 Dec 95: Proposals for Posters and Demos due 1 Dec 95: Final versions of accepted papers due 15 Jan 96: Notification of acceptance for Posters and Demos For more information, e-mail to ht96-info@cs.unc.edu or: http://acm.org/siglink/ht96-call.html \EOA 0744* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * CALL FOR PAPERS - Domain Knowledge for Interactive System Design * * Alistair Sutcliffe, City University * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * IFIP WG 8.1/13.2 Joint Working Conference Domain Knowledge for Interactive System Design May 8-10, 1996 Geneva, Switzerland There is growing awareness of the importance of the need for explicit capture and recording of domain knowledge in systems development. Analysis and definition of requirements depends critically on domain knowledge and use of such knowledge has vital influence on requirements and design of interactive systems. This working conference will bring together researchers and practitioners in information systems, software engineering and human computer interaction who have interests in domain analysis and modelling. The objective will be to advance understanding about how domain knowledge and its acquisition can empower system development methods, techniques for human computer interaction and development support in CASE tools. Papers are sought on a variety of themes relating to domain analysis and modelling: --Methods and techniques for analysis and modelling domain knowledge --Definitions, metaschema and languages for domain modelling --Development and use of domain knowledge in requirements engineering --Impact of domains on functional and non functional requirements --Domain analysis and modelling for software reuse --Techniques for domain knowledge acquisition and model representation --Groupware and collaborative capture of domain knowledge --Enterprise models and knowledge of business contexts The above topics span the acquisition, representation and use of domain knowledge in systems development, although the list is not intended to be exhaustive. Papers which support their theoretical contributions with empirical evidence will be favoured. Key Dates: Papers, (4 copies) of not more than 5000 words, for research contributions and/or industrial experience should be sent, by 30 October 1995, to: Professor Alistair Sutcliffe Centre for HCI Design School of Informatics City University Northampton Square London EC1V 0HB UK Voice: +44-171-477-8411 Fax: +44-171-477-8859 E-mail: a.g.sutcliffe@city.ac.uk \EOA 0745* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * CALL FOR PAPERS - Conference on the Design of Cooperative Systems * * IDSS Mailing List Newsletter * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Second International Conference on the Design of Cooperative Systems (COOP'96) June 12-14, 1996 Juan-les-Pins, France Information systems or knowledge-based systems of the new generation no longer aim at performing by themselves the whole task for which they are designed. They are rather intended to cooperate with their users for performing the task, as it is a real-world, complex task, often performed in the framework of a collective work: therefore, they are called cooperative systems. The purpose of the conference is to help to solve the problems arisen from the construction of cooperative systems, by: --a better understanding of human-human or human-computer cooperation --the proposition of models of cooperation --the proposition of new functions for cooperative systems and of suitable design methodologies. Therefore, we hope to bring together researchers from various communities (cognitive psychology and ergonomics, computer-supported collaborative work, distributed artificial intelligence, group decision support systems, knowledge engineering, management, organization sciences...) that all contribute to the understanding of the specificities of cooperative systems and to the modelling of cooperation. Both theoretical contributions or empirical studies may be valuable for the conference. The conference will include both presentation of communications and panels upon specific topics. IMPORTANT DATES Papers submission deadline: December 20, 1995 Notification of acceptance or rejection: March 11, 1996 Camera ready copies received: April 15, 1996 SUBMISSION DETAILS Papers should be written in English and should not exceed 20 pages.
