[Tom Peters, SJM, 5/9/94, p. 3D.] (To be appreciated, be brief.) Businessmen like to start meetings on time, and are annoyed when people wander in ten or twenty minutes late. (Academic culture correlates late arrival with status. Research labs may tolerate it to foster a collegial atmosphere.) To get your own group on track, schedule meetings at odd times -- so that people will notice -- and privately encourage habitually late individuals to attend. Close the doors as you start on time, and cover the most important business first. Encourage staff presentations and let people know that their input is important. [Working Woman, 2/92. Kelly E. Methods have grown in acceptance since the earlier CRIS conferences and there has been considerable convergence in the basic techniques used by practitioners. CASE tools have continued to proliferate and there has been an emergence of tools which generate an operational system. There are two important areas in which both methods and CASE tools are lacking, namely the area of distributed systems and the area of access control. It is the aim of CRIS 94 to provide a platform for exploring the state of the art, the state of practice, the state of research and the state of harmonization work. With this in mind, three themes are identified within the overall area of methods and tools: Theme A: Comparative evaluation based on methods and associated tools Theme B: Standards and harmonization of methods and tools Theme C: The shortcomings in existing methods Poster Session Proposals are invited for a poster session to be held on the second day of the conference. Proposals should include author(s) of paper; name, address and email of author(s) presenting paper; 400 word synopsis of paper. Proposals should be sent to the CRIS Secretariat to arrive on or before 15 July 1994. A decision regarding acceptance or rejection of the proposal will be communicated by email to the author on or before 26 August 1994. The approach recognizes that activities happen concurrently in organizations, and that methods are needed to model concurrency within organizations and information systems. The objective of the International Working Conferences on Dynamic Modelling and Information Systems is to bring together interested information systems users and developers, researchers and educators for cross-fertilization and exchange of information and ideas. The expectation is that continued development of dynamic models of information systems and organizations will lead to better organizational problem solving and the solution of a number of real-world problems in information systems development and operation. At this fourth conference, special interest will be paid to comparing different approaches for dynamic modelling, to the construction of professional tools for dynamic modelling, to empirical studies on dynamic approaches of information systems analysis and design, and to the transfer of the technology to government and commercial organizations. As this is a working conference, the papers in the proceedings will be large (16-32 pages), and presentation times will be long (30 minutes for short 16-page papers, one hour for longer, 30+ page papers). There will be ample time for discussion and exchange of ideas and research results. The preliminary program, registration form, and other information can be ftp'd from "duticai.twi.tudelft.nl" using anonymous ftp, directory /pub/bpr-l, file dyncfp.txt.
