It refers to attempts to achieve order of magnitude improvements in organisational perfor- mance by redesigning the processes by which an organisation delivers value to its customers. The newly designed processes are often enabled by information technology. In many quoted cases, this has led to transformational changes in the way in which organisations are structured. In particular, traditional functional structures, and the barriers between them, are being broken down in favour of multi-disciplinary teams responsible for complete processes. INVITATION TO SUBMIT ABSTRACTS: Management researchers are invited to submit abstracts of papers for approval by the conference committee by 18 February 1994. Abstracts should be no longer than 200 words. Successful authors will be informed of the requirements for submission of their final papers once the selection has taken place. We are particularly keen to receive submissions from researchers in many different management disciplines including strategic management, operations management, organisational behaviour and information systems. Leading papers from the conference will be published in the _Journal of Corporate Transformation_ during the latter half of 1994. CONTACT: Additional information about this CFP and the conference is available from the Conference Director. Its purposes are: --to facilitate communications between information systems researchers in Australia and in other countries --to provide an avenue whereby researchers can report to their peers --to provide exemplars of research and the reporting of research --to assist people embarking on academic careers to commence establishing a track record in research publication. The Conference Programme will include plenary sessions featuring invited speakers and panel sessions. A significant proportion of the programme is, however, reserved for the presentation of contributed papers. It is ACIS policy that papers will be considered on their merits, irrespective of topic, perspective, theoretical stance or research design. Information Systems researchers are invited to register immediately with the Programme Committee their intention to contribute a paper to the conference, and to request a copy of the Instructions for Authors. All papers will be submitted to a blind refereeing process. Advice will be given to both successful and unsuccessful authors. Accepted papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings. IMPORTANT DATES: Registration of intention to submit: February 25, 1994 Draft version for review by referees: April 16, 1994 Advice of acceptance or rejection: June 10, 1994 Final version for publication: July 15, 1994 Direct your submissions and enquiries to: Mr. Graeme Shanks Chair, Programme Committee Department of Information Systems Monash University, Caulfield Campus P.O. University of Maryland at College Park, Maryland USA CSS94 is the professional meeting for the Social Science Computing Association (SSCA). This year's theme is "Information: Society, Superhighway or Gridlock?" This theme resonates to the great interest in the future National Information Infrastructure (NII) that will serve governmental, educational, commercial, and scientific institutions. A white paper on the topic entitled "Using the National Information Infrastructure for Social Science, Education, and Informed Decision Making" is available from bet@ornl.gov. CSS94 solicits original papers relating to social science and computing which report new research, survey or review emerging trends, research in progress, proposed research projects, or innovative applications. Suggestions are also welcome for panels, short workshops, and demonstrations of software/hardware/data applications. Submissions need not relate to the conference theme, but CSS94 is especially interested in work that in some way concerns the NII, including social-scientific studies that analyze this development from critical as well as supportive standpoints. SUBMISSION INFORMATION: For papers, a 1-2 page abstract should be submitted by e-mail or regular mail no later than March 1, 1994.
