Thus in this first week you will receive four issues. Why four issues? Why not just a single mega-issue? First, many mailer programs do not handle large files well. I will try to keep each issue down to 32K or less. If your mailer has a problem with files this size please let me know and if enough subscribers say so I will reduce INFOSYS size even further. Second, paging through an issue of 8-10 articles is easier for most readers. We all face information overload to varying degrees and maybe the difference between four 8 article issues and one 32 article issue is psychological, but it is a difference that matters. Within this theme, the Congress will address such important questions as: are we developing the 'right' technology and applications, what will be the impact of these developments, and what should we do differently? Research into the foundations of computer science continues to open up new possibilities for design and application of hardware and software, and some the most promising foundations topics will also be explored in this Congress.
