Survey and Analysis of Demand for Journals at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. pp. 23-38 Abstract -- This paper describes surveys and analyses conducted in 1991-1993 to determine the demand for journals by users of the libraries of the State University of New York at Stony Brook. It also describes the use of the information gathered by these surveys in a journal cancellation project. The use and user studies described include (1) a one-year analysis of use of all journals (new issues and bound volumes); (2) an analysis pf faculty perception of the value of individual journal titles; and (3) citation studies analyzing use of journal collections in the sciences. _Feather River Institute 1995_ Barker, Joseph W. Sleeping with the Enemy: The Love/Hate Relationship Between Acquisitions and Collection Development. pp. 41-47 Abstract -- Acquisitions and collection development represent a continuum in the process of purchasing materials for libraries. However, often there is a lack of understanding of the goals of each group as they work to build collections in libraries. This paper examines the interaction between the acquisitions and collection development functions in libraries by describing a series of common problem areas. Possible strategies for working together will be examined including priority setting, boundary definition, roles, mutual expectations and respect. Fisher, William. Library Management: The Latest Fad, A Dismal Science, or Just Plain Work? pp. 49-56 Abstract -- This paper traces the development of management as a "science" and into the 1970s as one management "fad" replaces another. A sample of "fads" is discussed and some contrarian viewpoints expressed. Cook, Eleanor I. Reorganization Revisited; Or Is Acquisitions an Endangered Species? pp. 77-84 Stelmasik, Barbara A. Building Bridges Between Acquisitions and Collection Development: Communication Models for The Electronic Environment. pp. 93-102 Abstract -- This paper explores ways to take advantage of electronic communication and integrated library systems to redesign workflow and create better working relationships between acquisitions and collection development personnel. It presents three bibliographer models - traditional, transitional and techno-bibliographer - which were developed through interviews with selectors at the University of Minnesota. The models include a narrative description and a list of work patterns and corresponding issues. The paper also presents elements for future research. Allison, Terry L.
