While many of us take such an interpretation as obvious, the person outside the community would have no evidence one way or another about this. How could a person learn such a thing? Authority? Maybe. Reading through the mailing list archives would be another way, but the archives measure about 18 million words long. At a pace of 250 words/minute, it would take a decent reader about 50 days of non-stop work to read it once. Such is what indexes are for, and now-a-days we have an increasing number of different indexing techniques at our disposal. Concordances. Relational databases. Google. Lucene/Solr. RAG. ;-)

Hmmm... I wonder. What are the similarities and differences between a library catalog and a library discovery system, and can I cite definitions?
