Hi Julie,

While we do support the hosting of some student and inactive journals, that support from the library is extremely limited. I think the role you are describing – especially if you include formatting and editing services – is the role of (managing) editor. That is not something we do at the library; our university press<https://lup.nl/> would be a partner for publishing (although they are small and focus on certain subject areas).

Good afternoon -

Does your organization have a person dedicated to working with the journals you host? I'm not thinking the usual scholarly communication librarian, but someone whose whole job is working with hosted journals.

I manage our institutional repository, including its hosted journals. As costs associated with building and managing and publishing in journals continue to rise, our journal hosting service is becoming more and more popular. I have a lot of other duties (as do we all!) and am nearly at critical mass. Also, I'd love to offer more services to our hosted journals - currently we only offer the platform (Digital Commons) and some help with indexing and DOIs, but I'd love to offer some formatting/editing services, maybe even some peer reviewer management services. This won't really be possible without help.

I would like to propose to my library admin that we create a position to liaise with our journal hosting clients, from initial contact to ongoing maintenance. If you have such a position, I'd love to see the job description so I can get a good idea what to ask for.
