Hi Rachel,

Welcome! There is a slack channel; information to join is available at https://code4lib.org/irc/

There is also IRC but I don't know how active that is, compared to our slack channel.

Lastly, you may be interested in the Civic Switchboard initiative, an ILMS funded initiative that gathered best practices and hosted workshops about libraries acting in the civic data ecosystem, whether it's sharing public government data, hosting events for the public to learn about what data is collected by local government (and how to use it), etc.

The in-person workshops ended in 2024 but there are conference calls every couple months to discuss what participant libraries have been doing as well as a mailing list.

More information about the Civic Switchboard at https://civic-switchboard.github.io/about/

Regards,
Will

 Hello all,
I'm new to exploring Code4Lib and don't know where to start!
I'm a public reference librarian in Charlotte, and I'm interested in proposing a digital platform project for public libraries to support local news and local government information. I was directed to the Code4Lib group as the place to find people who would understand the project and explain what it will require.
I need to learn from scratch. I'd love some advice in navigating the forums here.
Many thanks!Rachel Kubie
