TCB: Technical Services in Religion & Theology (ISSN 1548-8497), an open access publication of Atla, is seeking submissions of short, non-peer-reviewed articles on the use of artificial intelligence in technical services to be published in the January 2026 issue.
We are looking for two types of submissions:
Perspectives & Practices
First-person narratives that incorporate an experience, process, or project related to usage of artificial intelligence and generative AI. AI tools are built into most of the systems and software that librarians now use. We are seeking a wide variety of perspectives from across technical services, including systems administration, acquisitions, cataloging/metadata, electronic resources, and archives and special collections.
Possible topics include but are not limited to:
Automated cataloging and metadata creation
AI-enhanced search and retrieval
Ethics of AI use, especially data privacy and security concerns
AI in collection management
AI in data analysis, such as usage patterns
Automated workflows
Staff training on AI tools
Understanding of AI as a professional skill
Use of AI in translation and transcription
The text should be engaging and personal while remaining professional. These are not scholarly articles and do not need an abstract or bibliography. Submissions should fall between 1000 and 2500 words.
Reviews
Brief reviews of 200-500 words covering a specific AI tool.
Submission Details
The submission deadline is November 15, 2025. Check our submissions page for full details about manuscript preparation and submission. Although not required, we encourage potential authors to submit short proposals in advance of the November deadline. Accepted submissions will be published in the January 2026 issue.
