Hi Charles,
Yes, people do replace MacOS with Linux on "old" MacBooks and MacBook Pros. I have not yet done this myself, but I have seen Jeff Geerling install Ubuntu on a Macbook Air from 2013<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1G0v5s1nEZk>.
For VirtualBox, the MacBook Pro still needs to run a version of MacOS that is supported by the VirtualBox software. People do also do that, but the experience will be different.
Regards,
Ben

Subject: [CODE4LIB] 2015 MacBook Pro - Linux or Virtual Box
It’s my understanding a 2015 MacBook Pro cannot be upgraded to run
macOS 13 (Ventura) or higher, and the CPU cannot be upgraded to an i13
processor.
Has anyone converted a MacBook Pro to Linux by clean sweeping the
hard drive and installing any Linux distro?
How about installing a virtual box on their MacBook Pro?
Let's be resourceful this Labor Day!
Thank you.
Charles.
