Hi,
I'm using the Chrome browser on a Windows desktop, as opposed to using the app. I went to this address: https://www.google.com/intl/en-US/gmail/about/ On the blue button "Create an account," I clicked the dropdown arrow to choose "For my personal use." Then entered my fake first name, no last name (because this wasn't for an account I'd keep and use). Birthdate and gender next, then chose a username, created a password. I didn't write down all these steps so I can't remember if ignoring the request for a phone number was next but this is how I did it.

Thanks,
~Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth and Rian,

I watched over him as he used a library laptop to proceed step by step on Gmail Create Account and each time it prompted him for a cell phone or else it wouldtn process.

Perhaps,. you can share a specific link or the gmail sign you used which didn't prompt a cell phone?

Thanks,

Charles.
