The position will primarily work with metadata (descriptive, technical, and administrative) for digital objects in the Carolina Digital Repository and other digital collection platforms used by the library. The Metadata Specialist will work most closely with the Metadata Librarian, who is responsible for setting local metadata policies and requirements based on best practices and common standards. The overall focus of this position will be developing, documenting, and carrying out the hands-on routine workflows and one-off solutions that get our metadata work done meeting specifications.

LDSS serves our colleagues across the Library by consulting on, and in some cases carrying out, data and metadata-oriented or -related special projects and ongoing workflows. Over time, the position will likely contribute to various other metadata-related projects. The day-to-day work of this position will help University faculty, students, and staff contribute content to Library collections with minimal friction. Once content is in our collections, the Metadata Specialist will play an important role in ensuring that the Library is able to manage, migrate, preserve that content, and that users of the Library can find and access relevant content.
