Job Description Summary:

Job ID:  4574

Miami University Libraries seeks a creative and user-oriented colleague for the position of Web Services Librarian. This position is part of a team that leads the Libraries’ efforts to enhance its virtual spaces, working closely with other Library departments to develop and expand online library services. This team will take leadership in setting direction for the Libraries’ web presence including design, implementation and maintenance;  selection, implementation, and maintenance of web-based library tools; usability of web services and products and developing and delivering training for web based products and services.  This position reports to the Director of Library Systems.

Duties/Physical Demands:

In a strong team environment, this position will work together with other team members in the following:
Coordinate the development, management and assessment of the library’s online presence, including but not limited to the library web site, mobile site and vendor-hosted digital products.
Collaborate with library personnel with the development of online learning objects, research support tools, and web content.
Designs and leads usability testing efforts for the Libraries’ web presence.
Ensures conformity to accessibility standards.
Develops and provides support for web based products and services.
Investigate technologies to improve access and delivery of digital resources and services.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in library or information science.
Demonstrated experience in website design and/or development.
Familiarity with web authoring tools and content management systems.
Familiarity with usability design and assessment.
Knowledge of current web accessibility standards including responsive web design.
Knowledge of current web technologies.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Flexibility and adaptability for work in an evolving, fast-paced, changing environment.

Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently and to promote teamwork among colleagues.
Ability to meet the criteria for continuing contract and promotion described in the Librarians' Appointment, Rank, and Promotion System (LARPS).http://www.lib.muohio.edu/about/larps.pdf. Rank dependent upon qualifications at appointment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong project management skills.
Experience in an academic library.
Experience working in a team environment.
Strong interest in emerging technologies and general trends in librarianship and higher education.
Experience with web APIs and mobile technologies.
Experience with web applications in a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) environment.
