GALILEO stands for GeorgiA LIbrary LEarning Online, an initiative of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. GALILEO is an online library portal to authoritative, subscription-only information. GALILEO serves more than 2000 institutions, including the universities and colleges of the University System of Georgia and Technical College System of Georgia along with Georgia K-12 schools and public libraries. GIL stands for GALILEO Interconnected Libraries, the integrated library management system for acquiring, cataloging, accessing, and circulating the collections of the USG institutions. GIL uses Ex Libris’ Alma, which is hosted in the cloud. Alma supports library catalogs and services; in addition, each institution has access to a “union” view, with the holdings of all GIL participants. Through this view, GIL Express requesting (borrowing books from another USG library) is initiated. GIL applications support staff are located at UGA (supporting 27 USG institutions).
