The University at Albany Libraries (State University of New York, Albany, NY) seek a service-oriented, creative, collaborative individual to serve as the Desktop Support Technician. Reporting to the Head of Library Systems, the successful candidate will have daily responsibility for supporting and maintaining the OS X and Windows platforms in the Libraries.

Duties include: 

Support the OS X and Windows platforms in the Libraries and configure and maintain the Macintosh computers and laptops used in the public areas including but not limited to the Interactive Media Center lab, the instructional classrooms, and the presentation rooms

 Provide phone, email and in-person assistance to diagnose and correct hardware and software problems for desktop applications and connectivity to central computing servers for email and internet services
Configure desktop equipment and install application software, as well as maintain detailed documentation on configurations and deployments
Work with members of the Library Systems staff and other members of the University's IT community to develop an effective enterprise management solution to support Macintosh computers in the Libraries
Hire, train and supervise student employees and interns
Provide training to faculty and staff on how to use specific software used on OS X and Windows platforms
Keep up-to-date on industry trends and emerging technologies; make recommendations for adoption of new technologies and best practices
Participate in and contribute to discussions and initiatives coordinated by the Libraries, campus, local and regional committees as appropriate
Maintain a positive attitude throughout the workplace by being cooperative, courteous, and supportive towards all colleagues
Serve as a backup to the Desktop Support Manager
Move, transport and configure computer equipment and related hardware
Troubleshoot basic integrated audiovisual equipment
Expected to serve on library or university committees in service to the campus and library community

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 


 Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
Three years of professional work experience providing direct customer support for users with various levels and types of computing needs
Experience in the setup and configuration of Macintosh hardware and OS X software including operating systems and software applications
Experience in the installation and configuration of Macintosh and Windows desktop productivity application software (word processing, spreadsheets, email calendaring, etc.)
Ability to analyze and troubleshoot computer problems
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to work with a culturally diverse population

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 Working knowledge of OS X server and Profile Manager
Working knowledge of the Windows 7 Standard Operating Environment (SOE)
Working knowledge of system management software such as Ghost or Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager
Unix programming or scripting experience
Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP) or Apple Certified Associate - Mac Integration Basics certification
Experience with audio or video editing software applications
Experience working in an academic library setting
