weird indeed. My pdf-viewer in Ubuntu doesn't mention anything about the document being locked, not even while looking at its properties.
Don't worry about it. Pdf's exist in many flavors.

Nicolas, I was able to process the PDF file, but as I was viewing it from Sourceforge my Macintosh Preview application said that it needed to be "unlocked". I don't know what that means, but I said, yes, do it, and after that processing worked as expected. Weird? --Eric Morgan
