Running django-auth-ldap

Has anyone had any success setting up and running the django-auth-ldap package for a Django application?  The documentation at http://pythonhosted.org/django-auth-ldap  looks fairly straightforward, but I've made no headway in actually getting it to work.  Can anyone point me to any other resources to consult?
