To the Editor, Bryn Mawr Classical Review:

   David Potter. Review of Hornblower. Commentary on Thucydides 1 

Dear Sir or Madam.  

        In his review Professor Potter criticises my treatment of
ThUcydides iii 30.4 where he says I argue for Steup's KOINO/N.  I
do nothing of the sort.  I make it clear that I disapprove of
KOINO/N.  The reading I prefer and adopt in my long note is
KAINO/N, and at the end of the note I am careful to signal my rare
departure from the Oxford Text, which has KENO/N.  The word KAINO/N
appears nowhere in Potter's treatment, though it may have
disappeared in an unchecked misprint (his reference to Polybius 24
should be to Polybius 29).
