About Bryn Mawr Classical Review URL = http://hegel.lib.ncsu.edu/stacks/serials/bmcr/about-bmcr The BMCR archives comprise several hundred `article' files, each with a serial number file name of less than eight characters, consisting of numerals and hyphens. Each designates the volume, issue, and number of the contents: so 3-4-6 is the sixth item in the fourth issue of volume 3. (Vol. 1, 1990; vol. 2, 1991; vol. 3, 1992.) The individual article files are organized in `volume' directories, so for example, 3-4-6 and all other Vol. 1 articles are in v3. In addition the file INDEX contains a current list of all files in serial number order, identifying author and title of book reviewed and author of review. To subscribe to the BMCR or BMMR Listserv, send the following message to LISTSERV@CC.BRYNMAWR.EDU: SUB BMCR-L Your Name SUB BMMR-L Your Name or SUB BMR-L Your Name for both without duplications. Articles are available via anonymous ftp, WAIS, and gopher. For anonymous ftp, ftp to ftp.lib.Virginia.EDU and log in as anonymous. You will be prompted for a password; please use your full e-mail address (e.g., jpw@virginia.edu). The INDEX file is available as: /pub/alpha/bmcr/index Individual articles are found in volume directories, such as: /pub/alpha/bmcr/v1 For WAIS, please direct WAIS clients to orion.lib.Virginia.EDU (port 210). The "source" file is bmcr.src. Users of the gopher client software will find the journal and associated indexes at gopher.lib.Virginia.EDU as well, with the standard gopher port 70, in the "Journals" area, and within that, the "Bryn Mawr Classical Review" section. CHARACTER SETS Inquiries suggest it is not out of place to post the transliteration scheme BMCR uses for Greek. This is an unofficial knock-off of TLG Beta code (no one could supply me with an accurate set of rules to follow, so I inferred them) and comments, corrections, and suggestions are welcome. A precisianist would call this "TLG Beta (O'D.)" I suppose. A alpha C xi Diacritical marks B beta O omicron appear after the D gamma P pi vowel, breathing G delta R rho first, then accent, E episilon S sigma then subscript Z zeta T tau H eta U upsilon ) smooth breathing Q theta F phi ( rough breathing I iota X chi / acute accent K kappa Y psi = circumflex L lambda W omega \ grave accent M mu + diaeresis N nu | iota subscript An asterisk (*) indicates that the following letter is to be capitalized. Punctuation is a problem, but instinct usually serves; so : has to make do for raised stop, but ; is available for questions, etc. Bryn Mawr classical review -- Bryn Mawr, Pa. : Thomas Library, Bryn Mawr College, 1990- v. ; 22 cm.
