In Miami, the Committee considered many comments and fact ors in refining the current revision and is now seeking one more round of comments from all ALA units and interested librarians. If your unit is interested in appointing a representative to present comments, or if you wish to comment individually, contact Judith Krug at the Office for Intellectual Freedom (e-mail to judith.krug@ala.org or 1-800-545-2433, x4223) to secure a time slot. Written comments will also be accepted. The Committee welcomes your input on issues of general concern and specifically would appreciate comments about the global nature of the current draft, i.e., does it allow for discussion of the issues of concern to your group; is it broad enough for the development of interpretive statements by your group? ALA Code of Ethics Proposed Revision 6/27/94 I. We provide the highest level of service to all library users through appropriate and usefully organized resources; equitable service policies; equitable access; and accurate, unbiased, and courteous responses to all requests. II. We resist all efforts by groups or individuals to censor library resources or to compromise the principles of intellectual freedom. III. We protect each library user's right to privacy with respect to information sought or received and resources consulted, borrowed or acquired. IV. We recognize and respect intellectual property rights. V. We treat co-workers and other colleagues with respect, fairness and good faith, and advocate conditions of employment that safeguard the rights and welfare of all employees of our institutions. VI. We strive for excellence in the profession by maintaining and enhancing our own knowledge and skills, by encouraging the professional development of co-workers, and by fostering the aspirations of potential members of the profession. VII. We do not advance private interests at the expense of library users, colleagues, or our employing institutions. VIII.We distinguish between our professional duties and personal convictions and do not allow our personal beliefs to interfere with fair representation of the aims of our institutions or the provision of access to their information resources. ************************************************************************* WAITING FOR INTERNATIONAL LEADS ARTICLE?
