Edited by Mark Roosa and Jane Gottlieb, the publication addresses the problems and challenges of preserving music in both print and non-print formats. It educates librarians and library administrators about the wide range of materials found in music libraries, their inherent preservation problems, and how preservation strategies can be designed to deal with these problems. Most of the papers in this volume were presented at an ALCTS program held during the ALA conference in Atlanta in 1991. The book also contains a condition survey of the score collections at the Julliard School and a report on a major project for the mass deacidification of scores at Northwestern Univeristy (both 1993). _Knowing the Score: Preserving Collections of Music_ (ISBN 0-914954-48-2) is available for $22 from ALA Publishing, Order Dept., 520 N. Dearborn St., Chicago IL 60610. Telephone 800-545-2433, press 7. ALCTS has published _North American Title Count - 1993_, which replaces the former _National Shelflist Count_. The 770-page publication is designed for libraries to use as a method of measuring collections and provides relational data in single and multiple institutional settings. It also allows libraries to provide a structure and a source of preliminary information for collection management evaluating and coordinating. The 57 institutions that participated in the project include academic, federal and special libraries. Forty-four participants are Association of Research Libraries (ARL) members, including five Canadian academic libraries. _North American Title Count - 1993_ (ISBN 0-8389-7735-9) is available only in bound format (users may remove the binding for loose-leaf storage) for $185 from ALA Publishing, Order Dept., 520 N.
