The new format publication defines the codes and conventions (tags, indicators, subfield codes, and coded values) that identify the data elements in the records. It includes full record examples which show how records for organizations, agencies, programs, individuals, and events are coded. USMARC community information records are distinguished from all other types of USMARC records by the presence of code q (community information) in Leader/06, Type of record. Leader/07, Kind of data, has five codes to denote the kind of community information found in the record: program or service, individual, organization, event, and other data not specifically identified. The _USMARC format for community information_ was prepared by the Network Development and MARC Standards Office of the Library of Congress. Orders for the document (cost: $41 in North America, $44 elsewhere) may be placed with the Library of Congress, Cataloging Distribution Service, Customer Services Section/Dept. The new database, called Inside Information, provides author, title, and journal citation information for articles appearing in 10,000 of the most requested titles in the British Library Document Supply Centre's (BLDSC) collection of 50,000 of the world's principal journals and magazines. As of September 1, Inside Information contains approximately 900,000 citations from October 1992 onwards, with BLDSC estimating that more than 1 million citations will be added to the file every year. Daily updating is planned. Full text of every article is available by document delivery through CitaDel. Delivery methods include air mail, fax, and RLG's Ariel (document transmission software for the Internet). Inside Information is available free to institutions purchasing annual subscriptions to RLIN (the Research Libraries Information Network). For institutions not purchasing RLIN subscriptions, Inside Information is available for a yearly fee as a stand-alone CitaDel file. (RLG member institutions automatically receive a 5% discount on all subscription fees.) Institutions purchasing annual subscriptions to RLIN or Inside Information will receive a free copy of the Ariel software.
