The deadline for submitting Midwinter Meeting Space Request Forms is October 1, and meeting room assignments will begin the week of October 18. All ALCTS officers as well as chairs and co-chairs of sections, committees, task forces, and discussion groups should receive the mailing. Chairs who have not received the conference mailing by Monday, September 13, should contact Yvonne McLean, ALCTS Program Assistant, at 800/545-2433, ext. 5032, or e-mail: ymclean@ala.org. SURVEY ON NATIONAL-LEVEL SERIES TREATMENT POLICIES AND PRACTICES A web survey on the need/desirability for national-level series treatment policies and practices is available for comment from all PCC participants. SUMMARY NOTES OF THE PCC PARTICIPANTS' MEETING Summary notes of the PCC Participants' meeting held at ALA Annual Conference, 1999 are available on the PCC home page http://lcweb.loc.gov/catdir/pcc The summary notes consist of: 1) The Chair's state of the program update for BIBCO/CONSER/NACO A summary of the INTCO report highlighting the contributions made by PCC international partners. 2) A synopsis of the presentation provided by the Standing Committee on Automation (SCA), including an update on the findings of the Task Force on Journals in Aggregator Databases. 3) The results of a survey conducted by the SCA on PCC awareness of the OCLC authority macro and the RLG's authority record assistant (ARA); and, 4) The results of a survey conducted by the PCC Secretariat on revamping the PCC Participants' meeting format. posted by: Ana Cristan acri@loc.gov INFORMATION NEEDED FROM COMMERCIAL TECHNICAL SERVICES PROVIDERS ALCTS Commercial Technical Services Committee and the ALCTS Publisher-Vendor/Library Relations Committee, is gathering information for a directory of commercial technical services providers. The aim of this directory is to provide one place where librarians can obtain information on commercial technical services providers. The directory resulting from the questionnaire will be made available through ALCTS's web site. The ongoing work of the committees will keep the directory up-to-date with current information. Commercial technical services providers are invited to join us as we begin this exciting new project by completing the questionnaire below. POTOMAC TECHNICAL PROCESSING LIBRARIANS ANNUAL MEETING "Technical Services Librarians: the training we need, the issues we face" is the theme of PTPL's 75th Annual Meeting, which will be held at Western Maryland College in Westminster, Maryland, on Friday, October 8, 1999 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Marietta Plank, Executive Director of Chesapeake Information and Research Library Alliance, is the keynote speaker. Panel members and topics include: Jean Hirons, the Library of Congress (serials); Lynda Clendenning, the University of Virginia (acquisitions); John Walsh of George Mason University (collection development); and Barbara Anderson of Virginia Commonwealth University (cataloging). The theme of the conference is: "Dynamism and Stability in Knowledge Organization." Papers addressing Dynamism and Stability in Knowledge Organization from any of the following interrelated perspectives are invited: Cognitive and Linguistic Foundations Theories of Knowledge and Knowledge Organization Information Policies and Management of Knowledge Structures Information Systems: Concepts, Design and Implementation Culture, Language and Communication in Knowledge Organization Knowledge Organization of Universal and Special Systems Global Users and Uses of Knowledge and Knowledge Organization New Information Technologies for Knowledge Organization Theoreticians, researchers and practitioners involved in knowledge organization are invited to submit abstracts of between 500 and 1000 words by September 30, 1999 to Professor Clare Beghtol, Programme Chair (see contact information below; electronic submissions welcome; please include ISKO in the subject line).
