IMPORTANT NOTE: There was a mistake made on many of the room assignments. Committees that will be meeting as part of a Section All Committees Meeting, will need to check their room assignments. In some cases, individual committees have been scheduled in different hotels from their parent Section All Committee meeting. The correct location for each meeting will be where the Section All Committee meeting is assigned. You may want to notify your committee members of the correct locations. McLean at ymclean@ala.org, or (800) 545-2433 ext. 5032. ************ CANDIDATES SOUGHT FOR DEPUTY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF LAMA AND ALCTS ALCTS and the Library Administration and Management Association (LAMA), divisions of the American Library Association, are seeking candidates for the position of deputy executive director in support of activities and projects of the two divisions. General responsibilities include: development, planning, marketing and management of the divisions' continuing education programs such as regional institutes, preconferences and annual conference programs*frequently in collaboration with committees of both divisions; providing support and guidance to both elected and appointed members of LAMA and ALCTS; supporting the divisions' publication programs, coordinating the divisions' membership promotion programs; providing advisory services concerning the programs of the two divisions; day to day supervision and management of the LAMA/ALCTS office; and supervision of special projects and other responsibilities as assigned. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively with the LAMA and ALCTS members and governing groups; be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships within a professional association setting; possess excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; and be able to work well under pressure but with the flexibility to organize work and schedule to accommodate competing priorities. An MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program is required; a minimum of 2 years professional experience in a library, plus general subject knowledge in areas of the divisions' responsibility is also required. Salary range: $43,667-$55,655. Attractive benefit package includes 4 weeks paid vacation plus medical and dental insurance, TIAA/CREF and more. Or visit our website at http://www.ala.org/alcts/now/index.html. ********* PINYIN TO BE TOPIC AT CC:AAM MEETING The progress of LC's pinyin conversion project, RLG's development of the pinyin conversion software and its application, and OCLC's planning toward this issue will all be briefed in the annual meeting of ALCTS CCS Committee on Cataloging: Asian and African Materials (CC:AAM). CC:AAM's meeting will be held on Sunday, June 27 from 8:30-12:30. The report on the pinyin issue will possibly be from 9 a.m. to around 10: 15 a.m. In addition, CC:AAM is planning to have a program, "challenges of the pinyin conversion in the online environment", at the Annual Conference 2000. -- Wen-ling Liu, Chair, CC:AAM (wliu@indiana.edu) ********* OHIO VALLEY GROUP OF TECHNICAL SERVICES LIBRARIANS CONFERENCE On May 20-21, in Springfield, Ohio, the Ohio Valley Group of Technical Services Librarians (OVGTSL) will be holding their Annual Conference. One of the keynote speakers will be Sheila Intner, Professor at Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information Science and President of ALCTS. She will be giving two presentations, "Advice from the Red Queen: Running to Keep in Place" and " Twenty-second Century Technical Services, or Bambi Meets Godzilla." The Scholarship Bash replaces the All-Conference Party in the hopes of raising $150,000 to provide scholarships for 40-60 graduate students in library and information studies, and will include both a silent and a live auction. ALL proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the ALA scholarships, as well as scholarships given by the New Members Round Table, the Exhibitors Round Table, Spectrum and ALA-affiliated ethnic caucuses. You will "party the night away with New Orleans' premiere hometown band, the Neville Brothers. Tickets cost $20 in advance, and $25 on-site. There is no charge for international visitors (including Canadians). American librarians may purchase tickets for $25 on site at the international registration booth, or you may obtain them in advance for $20.
