On Sunday morning, June 28, at the ALA Annual Conference the ALCTS Leadership Development Committee is offering all section and division leaders an opportunity to present their plans for 1998-99...and beyond...at ALCTS Leaders Look to the Future. A similar presentation at the 1997 Midwinter Meeting in Washington was enthusiastically endorsed by those who attended, with a suggestion that there be regular meetings of this kind. This sharing, and a 15-minute course on how to run an effective meeting, will be a prelude to the orientation to ALCTS committees and the division which the office provides annually. All ALCTS members are invited to attend as much of the presentation as they would like, but new committee members and chairs are especially encouraged to stay for the orientation. 8:30-9:15 Each section chair and division president will have 5 or 6 minutes to lay out their plans for the immediate future. 9:15-9:30 There will be a brief presentation by Bob Holley, former ALCTS president, on how to run a good meeting -- a necessity as we try to streamline the number and increase the effectiveness of ALCTS meetings. 9:30-11:00 The ALCTS staff will present an orientation to ALCTS for new division and section committee chairs and committee members (including discussion groups). 11:00-12:30 The ALCTS staff will provide an orientation specifically for program and institute/preconference planners. All events will take place in the State Room of the Doubletree Hotel. By Board policy, we are unable to provide refreshments for meetings, but you are welcome to purchase coffee in the hotel and bring it with you to the meeting. ************ HEFT APPOINTED TO FILL SERIALS SECTION VACANCY The Serials Section Executive Committee, pursuant to the ALCTS Bylaws, has chosen a member-at-large to fill the first year of a three-year term made vacant when Ann L. O'Neill resigned her at-large election to accept a position as director of the Office for Accreditation at ALA. Sandra Heft, the other candidate in the election, will serve as member-at-large of the Serials Section through 1999. Nominations will be sought for the 1999-2001 term. ************ DISCUSSION GROUP TOPICS AT ANNUAL Until about a week before the Annual Conference in Washington, AN2 will publish summaries of discussion group topics and presenters.
