The journal will be published in two issues of 92 pages each year. Contents will include articles recording research of academic nature, and reports on practical professional activities of interest to fellow professionals in information provision and library work throughout Africa. It will publish short communications; professional papers by African colleagues at IFLA congresses and workshops, and from other gatherings relevant to Africa's concern with information provision. The journal will be based at the Africa Region Secretariat in Dakar, Senegal, and thus complement, but not overlap with material published in the Newsletter, Regional Section for Africa. Articles should normally be between 1,500 and 4,000 words in length, and submitted in French or English. Translation of abstracts will be organized by the editor-in-chief, Henri Sene, who will also answer enquiries about the new journal. He can be reached at Bibliotheque Universitaire, B.P. 2006, Dakar, Senegal; fax 00221 2423 79; Email: biblicad@sonatel.senet.net. The participation of regional sub-editors will be vital to the success of this journal, which aims to serve and truly represent professional activities and research throughout the continent; therefore nominations or volunteers are invited from the regions. One will be selected from each region: North Africa, Francophone West Africa, Anglophone West Africa, Central Africa, Eastern Africa, Southern Africa. Sub-editors must be prepared to initiate and coordinate acceptable articles and other contributions from the network of colleagues in their sub-region. They must be capable of evaluating materials, before sending them for consideration by the editor-in-chief and his team of referees. They must understand the importance of deadlines in achieving publication according to schedule, so as to meet subscribers' expectations. They must have easy access to effective means of communicating with their colleagues within their sub-region, and across the continent. Nominations from each sub-region or names of volunteers should reach the editor-in-chief at the address given above no later than the end of December 1997. The successful appointee from each sub-region will be invited, once only, to a short intensive workshop and familiarization for the entire editorial team in Dakar in the first months of 1998. ************ ALCTS NETWORK NEWS (ISSN 1056-6694) is published irregularly by the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services, a division of the American Library Association.
