In the "Meeting with the President" article, we stated that President Clinton's childhood library was in Garland, Arkansas. It should have been Hot Springs, Arkansas. The second error was in the "Less Access to Less Information" article that stated the 1993 updates were attached to the newsletter. The updates were not supposed to be attached to the ALAWON newsletter. Sincere apologies from the editor for any confusion this may have caused. Thanks to our attentive readership for these corrections. *************************************************************************** FINAL PUSH NEEDED TO OBTAIN HOUSE SIGNATURE ON "DEAR COLLEAGUE" As of May 13, some 88 Members of the House have agreed to sign onto the "Dear Colleague" letter to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education. The letter, sponsored by Reps. Major Owens (D-N.Y.), Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Pat Williams (D-Mont.), and Dale Kildee (D-Mich.), recommends that the library program funding zeroed out in the Administration's budget request be restored for FY 1995. The programs at risk include all Higher Education Act library programs, plus LSCA II and VI public library programs for construction/renovation/technology enhancement and for adult literacy programs. ACTION NEEDED: If your Representative is not listed below, contact his or her office immediately to ask that they sign on. They can do so by calling either Rep. Owens' office (asking for Ann-Marie at 225-6231) or Rep. Reed's office (asking for Larissa at 225-2735). By the end of this week, the four sponsors will have to cut off obtaining signatures and deliver the letter. A total of over 100 signatures would make a big difference. Thanks for your help. In addition, Sen. Harkin (D-Iowa), Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, would welcome learning of support for these programs from other Members of his Subcommittee. They are: Robert Byrd (D-W. Va.), Ernest Hollings (D-S.C.), Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii), Dale Bumpers (D-Ark.), Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Herbert Kohl (D-Wis.), Patty Murray (D- Wash.), Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), Mark Hatfield (R-Ore.), Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), Thad Cochran (R-Miss.), Slade Gorton (R-Wash.), Connie Mack (R-Fla.), and Christopher Bond (R- Mo.).
