I am not specifically seeking school library collections, but any type of library collection. I would appreciate any help or direction. Subject: Selling runs of periodicals Recently a faculty member offered to donate a thirty-year run of the journal _Foreign Affairs_, which we already own. His daughter, who is in library school, suggested to him that we might be able to sell these. I have traded donated books for credit at used book dealers, but the dealers I have dealt with are not interested in journals. I saw in _American Libraries_ a couple of ads for periodicals bought and sold, and I am just curious if anyone had any experience selling periodicals in this manner. (E. Virginia Medical School Library) Subject: Acquisitions Hiatus? Our academic health sciences library is about to migrate to SIRSI. In the course of this project we will have a period of about a month without access to the acquisitions modules of either our old system (Cybertools LIS) or of SIRSI. We are working on a means of handling purchasing during this interval. We are considering a purchasing hiatus, completing our orders in the old system, and then starting over in the new system. We have an approval plan, which we are thinking of continuing during the interval. We have never been a paperless shop, and could keep the paper flow going, but we don't think we can enter transactions into SIRSI retroactively. That's why we hesitate to function solely on paper during the interval. Has anyone been through a similar period without an acquisitions system? What was your plan and your experience? Acquisitions This is a general question regarding o.p. services such as ALIBRIS, BIBLIOFIND or ADVANCED BOOK EXCHANGE. I am an MLS student in my last semester at Queens College, CUNY and am in the middle of an internship at NYU's Bobst Library in their Acquisitions Department. I am working on an o.p. project and could sure use some help. Does anyone use these services as their sole source for o.p. needs? What is your opinion of these services regarding cost, fulfillment rate, coverage of subjects, billing and invoicing, and condition of purchases? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
