Their ploy with us was to say that they had to ship because we had ordered the first volume of whatever it was the year before. When I told them that if they shipped the book (and you're right--they are not worthwhile publications at all) we would ship it back, they shipped, and we returned. They call people all over the institution to get authorization to ship, including our business librarian, who usually tells them to go ahead assuming that IBD is a rational, professional organization. Little does she know. They call and "confirm your order" (which you never placed), are very pushy, and it is very hard to get them to stop calling. We have ceased doing business with them because their underhanded tricks never stop. *************************************** Bryan S. Tyson Head of Technical Services J.S. At the Brooklyn Campus, we in Acquisitions have been trying to use as much of the system as possible. Every attempt I have made to Bisac to Blackwell has failed. Blackwell reports that the Bisac request is not formatting correctly. Blackwell has tried to help, but the problem does not appear to be theirs. I have not attempted to contact Horizon. They have been rather unresponsive to most of our request. So, help! Does any one on the list use Horizon? Has any one sent request via the Bisac protocol to Blackwell? Has any one had to de-bug their system's Bisac feature? Please let me know. I'm beginning to feel foolish for banging my head against the wall. Thank you. A couple of recent postings have done that to good avail for me. In that vein, I received an "invoice" from an electronic information vendor of "high repute" for a "renewal" for two databases to which we do not subscribe. Given the fact that most of us are way too busy for our own good, it would be easy for something like this to slip by without appropriate attention to it. It is the Aleph500 Library management system from Ex Libris (USA). Do any of you have practical experience using this product - and would be willing to share some 'features' liked as well as disliked? I would be particularly interested in the acquisitions subsystem. Some of us would be willing to travel within a small radius to observe this first-hand, too!
