Subject: Approval Plans We are a small 4-year liberal arts college. All programs are undergraduate with the exception of one graduate program in Business Administration. Our materials budget is under $100,000 at the present time. We now have an approval slip program for several subject areas and are thinking about making it a true approval book plan and would like to know the experiences of other libraries in a similar situation. Would you be willing to share your experiences with us? Thank you. Marie E. Louisiana Community College) Subject: Purchasing complete libraries We are a brand new community college struggling to come into existence in a state of vast under-funding. Because of accreditation, my administration is concerned with how long it will take to build up our library going the usual acquisitions route. They would like for me to find a complete library to purchase, naturally as cheaply as possible. Is anyone aware of any library collections up for grabs, or can you tell me a source for such information? Also, any advice about such a transaction would be appreciated. I've already issued a warning to my administrators about the possibility of a lot of outdated material not necessarily appropriate to our situation and mission. Thanks for any help you can offer. Is anyone using this? Please email me privately. I have asked for a number of changes that would enhance this product and make it easier to use. I was just wondering if anyone else out there was investigating this product. deborah curry %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Deborah A. Does anyone know of work done in this area? Thanks very much. Acquisitions has been asked to consider employing OCLC's Microenhancer software to interface with OCLC. Has anyone else reviewed this option? If so, could you share the pros and cons for acquisitions work of accessing OCLC this way? If anyone is using it, has it been a success (or not)? Thanks for your response. David L. We received a form letter - unsigned, and without phone number stating: "We are very sorry, but effective immediately we are no longer accepting purchase orders from universities or companies." Has anyone else experienced this recently? One of our selectors spoke to them six months ago and did not have this kind of response.
