We are planning to automate and I would like advice from the list on the best way to plan and organize for the automation process. I'll summarize the results for the list. Please reply directly to M_gordon@library.fandm.edu Thanks... I am in search of information on stand alone acquisitions software programs. I've already searched the ACQNET archives and found some information there but fear that that information might be dated. We are using an library system that does not have an acquisitions module so we are currently using the cataloging module (ack!) with which to do acquisitions. In my searching of the archives I found the following programs listed/recommended: Nonsuch by Ringold Management Systems Bibbase by Library Technologies, Inc. MATSS by Midwest Library System Are these programs still in existence? Are there other stand alone acquisitions automation programs available? Does anyone know of contact information for these programs? What has been the experiences of those who used/are using these programs? Please send all messages to me; I'll summarize for the list. With sincere appreciation, Doreen Kopycinski Computer Services Librarian Law Library of Montgomery County Norristown, PA 19404 kopher@enter.net (4)---------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 05 Mar 1999 11:04:33 -0500 From: Marie E. Reed (Mesa State College) Subject: Approval Plans We are a small 4-year liberal arts college. All programs are undergraduate with the exception of one graduate program in Business Administration. Our materials budget is under $100,000 at the present time. We now have an approval slip program for several subject areas and are thinking about making it a true approval book plan and would like to know the experiences of other libraries in a similar situation. Would you be willing to share your experiences with us? Thank you. Marie E. Because of accreditation, my administration is concerned with how long it will take to build up our library going the usual acquisitions route. They would like for me to find a complete library to purchase, naturally as cheaply as possible. Is anyone aware of any library collections up for grabs, or can you tell me a source for such information? Also, any advice about such a transaction would be appreciated. I've already issued a warning to my administrators about the possibility of a lot of outdated material not necessarily appropriate to our situation and mission. Thanks for any help you can offer.
