Thanks in advance, and I will summarize for the list. The database web sites here in the U.S. (e.g., Interloc, Bibliofind, Bibliocity, and ABE) have revolutionized the OP business. The companies maintaining those sites say they are looking to expand into foreign lands, particularly Europe. But, it seems to me, they aren't there yet. I still have a very low hit rate for non U.S./U.K. titles. The question is: are there comparable resources out there for dealers in Europe, Asia, and Africa? Thanks very much for thinking about this. Ned Kraft Smithsonian Institution Libraries nkraft@sil.si.edu (3)----------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 06 Aug 1998 17:01:41 -0500 (EST) From: Marie Spina (New York University) Subject: Desiderata lists Help help! I need to know of any site on the web or any agency which any member can suggest will accept a list of out of print titles -- a "desiderata" list if you will. Information on address - Internet, email or real earth location gratefully accepted. Any hints on cost or other first hand hints welcomed! I have tried a few sites most of which are dead or inactive. Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted. Alas, I had a "crash" and lost my bookmarks. Can anyone recommend some websites? We are a very small library and only occasionally need to go to an out of print dealer so the "clearing house" situation is ideal for us. It allows us to search among many dealers at once without having to call each individually. No one in the room knew one. I have done a search on the Web and not been able to locate one that had a comprehensive scope aiming at a general audience. Since then, I have constructed a page for this purpose: Selection Aids for Internet Resources, its URL is http://weber.u.washington.edu/~hurlee/Selection_Aids.html If anyone knows a good site, please email me at the above address. Any other suggestions are also welcome. Thanks. Looking forward to hearing from many of you. We are not at all familiar with this company but are interested in trying them since they may be able to supply books and media material both and seem to have good discounts and tell us that they have a good turnaround time in getting these materials out to us. Is there anyone who has worked with this vendor and can tell us if they have been pleased with their turnaround time etc. We would appreciate any input before we make a decision to try. Our library apparently paid in advance for the third edition of the Global Company Handbook in 1995 but has received nothing despite repeated claims. No one answers the phone at the company's Princeton, NJ headquarters. Any advice from anyone who's dealt successfully (or unsuccessfully, I guess) with these folks? If so, what was the reasoning for the change? What have been the benefits? Problems? If a patron requests to borrow a book that is in print, do you purchase it as a rush purchase rather than borrow it on ILL? I'd appreciate hearing from anyone with any experience with this. Thanks!
