Note: SEE BELOW for where to send your examples] Examples of financial statements needed: In order to put together a workbook to accompany a preconference on interpreting financial statements and creating appropriate budgets for library or publishing organizations, it would be helpful if you could contribute and share "real time, real-life examples" of financial statements. Please be reassured that all indications of source or attributions to institutional/organizational origin will be eliminated. Librarians, publishers, and information professionals are challenged by how to estimate, cost-out, charge for and/or recover and review all expenses related to their products, services, overhead, future growth and human resources associated with defining their collections and resources. If interested in the preconference, consider attending the Charleston Conference Preconference, Wed., Nov. 4, 1998. Please send all examples of financial statements to David Lang by fax at 949-833-2786, or c/o HBLA, 19600 Fairchild, Suite #320, Irvine, CA 92612 or contact by e-mail at david@hbla.com by August 17. Thank you. I went from a highly automated system to a partially automated system to a system that has only the OPAC and Circulation automated. My task now is to get acquisitions automated so that we can see what is on order and what monies are encumbered. In a few months, our OPAC will be on the DRA system. I'm interested in any automated acquisitions systems that are being interfaced with DRA. I have searched the ACQNET archives but this doesn't seem to be a hot topic. Please respond to me directly and I'll summarize for the list. Thank you. Syed (National Library Board, Singapore) Subject: Price variations In our library system, any price variation from the order price/cover price has to have a publisher invoice accounting for the discrepancy. However, suppliers have complained that it is such a tedious task and that the common practice in libraries is to accept the price variation quoted by the supplier. Would anyone like to share how their library deals with price queries? We are looking into the situation and will have more information to report as we investigate further. If anyone else would like to file a complaint, please refer to the ALCTS website at: http://www.ala.org/alcts/you/manual/forms/pvlrform.html The committee acts as an advisory and review body, we do not have the power or authority to legally resolve a dispute. However, we would be happy to collect complaint forms as a means of gathering more information about the extent of this matter. If you cannot access the ALCTS website, the ALCTS office can provide you with a copy of the complaint form. (800-545-2433, or fax 312-280-5033) Thank you.
